Britain’s foreign secretary: situation in Syria is ‘deteriorating alarmingly’

Speaking during a visit to Libya’s capital Tripoli, the Foreign Secretary emphasised that the “situation in Syria continues to deteriorate alarmingly” with evidence of “terrible massacres in recent days.”

He added that the UK believes that it is “imperative” to have a Chapter 7 resolution of the United National Security Council which should “mandate the implementation of the Kofi Annan peace plan and of a transitional government.”

His comments came as the United Nations observer team in Syria called on President Bashar al-Assad’s government to cease the use of heavy weapons in population centres as they released new video showing destruction from the attack on the village of Tremseh.
